Dear King/Drew Family -
Because our students, staff, and community want and need to see and hear from us, especially now,
Because we want our students to see and hear from us, especially now,
Because we do not want a silence to grow and isolate us from our students and each other,
Because we are each others' keepers.
We want to take a first step of many to come
As a collective and now
To continue supporting students and the community around King/Drew
To keep moving in the legacy of King/Drew's vision and activism following the Watts uprising in 1965
For equality - on the basics of humane living - economic, social, medical, secure, pragmatic, political
That even in the midst of a pandemic that separates us
That even in the virtual learning that distances us
That even in the pain and outrage
We are thinking of our students and each other
And we reach out
To show
To stand
To support and love
To say
We are together
Connecting and caring where physical limits cannot stop us
This is for our Black students and Teachers.
This is for our students who feel hopeless. Scared.
